After all these years, Au Petit Paris is still the gold standard for classic F rench cuisine on the Eastern Costa. Alain ze chef and his missus Francoise deliver the authentic experience with the minimum of fuss, a lot of grace, and great consistency. Personal favourites include Coquilles St Jacques when in season, Salade Perigourdine, Tournedos Rossini or Chateaubriand, Rack of Lamb, Daurade, Creme Brulee with a hint of ginger, Tarte Tatin and a supporting cast of exquisite puddings and perfectly conditioned French cheeses. The mark up on their wines can look a little steep , but pause to consider that they do import a good selection of French wines, from good years, to sit alongside Spanish choices that offer cheaper options. And you can always rely on the house wines. Francoise is very generous with digestif liqueur measures – be warned. They also have bistro and special menus to suit customers who do not want to push the boat out. It is perfect for intimate special occasions, wedding anniversaries, St Valentine’s Day (book well ahead), and booking in advance is advised. There is an outdoor terrace for the hotter months. What’s not to like?

WE HAD A FANTASTIC MEAL THERE ON OCTOBER 11 THIS YEAR A BIRTHDAY TREAT WITH SNAILS FIRST MUSHROOMS AND CHICHEN JUST GREAT Francoise IS JUST MAD WHAT CAN I SAY BUT NO SHE IS GREAT AS YOU SAY BOOK FOR THAT SPECIAL EVENING WE ARE BACK NEXT YEAR 2011 WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO STILL BE GOING TO NERJA SINCE 1988 IT IS A VERY SPECIAL TIME WE CALL IT OUR TIME
In Nerja restaurants come and go, some die because they’re awful, some just never seem to establish themselves, but there is always the “gold standard” – Au Petit Paris. We’ve been going there a dozen years and always walk away with that warm glow of a great dinner accompanied by lovely wines.
Service has always been impeccable and whilst some might care to describe some items as un adventurous I’m not one for arty squirls and strawberries with everything trying to disguise poor preparation. Alain cooks good classic French food and whilst others try, there are no Nerja establishments that consistently deliver three courses of food to his standards time after time.
If you have not, try it, if it’s expensive for you, eat out once here instead of three times in the cheap and nasties! You’ll love it – promise.

Apart from being totally overpriced, the food is ‘stuck in the past’ as most French food and wine is. The decor is similarly outdated. This really is a place for people who want to eat 1970s food and have never tried anything more adventurous or more interesting. Lan Sang next door, although not much cheaper, at least shows some flair.

Barry in case you missed it there is a McDonalds not so far away. Enjoy!
Barry says:
Your sense of humour is wasted on you Mr Friggykeith – there is no McDonalds anywhere near Nerja fortunately, as they too serve unimaginative food – perhaps this is another of your favourites, but certainly not mine.

There is a McDonalds in both Velez Malaga and Almunecar. Neither of which is “far away”. Not taking sides, just a clarification.
