A total of 68 people were injured yesterday in three multiple pile-ups on the A-42 in Toledo involving over 100 vehicles. The cause of the incidents was dense fog. Surprisingly, there were no fatalities although one person is in a critical condition in hospital and another eight were seriously injured.
The first accident happened at around 08:30 with 60 vehicles involved in a pile-up between km 49 and km51 in the direction Madrid. Less than an hour later, three separate smashes occurred on the other carriageway, direction Toledo, involving a total of 48 vehicles, including a fire engine on its way to the first crash! The third accident took place near Illescas in the direction of Toldeo and was apparently caused by an overtaking manoeuvre.
