The Nerja Councillor for Infrastructure, José Alberto Tomé, is hoping that Maro will get a new power transformer by next summer. Villagers in some parts of Maro suffer frequent power shortages and have repeatedly demanded that something be done about the situation.
It all takes time, though. The first step in the process took place last March when the Council asked the Larios Sugar Company to cede plot of land to house a new transformer. Now, in January 2008, the Council has approved an installation agreement with the power company Sevillana-Endesa. In the agreement, the Council is responsible for the installation of power lines and other allied works, whilst Sevillana-Endesa is responsible for providing the necessary materials (cables etc) and for finishing everything off.
The agreement approved by the Council now goes back to Sevillana-Endesa for ratification. Once this happens, the power company has to submit an installation project, which will also have to be approved and ratified! Only after all the approving and ratifying is finished can the actual work begin…..
