Benagalbón is also getting ready to celebrate, with the Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria set to take place on Feruary 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The festival, in honour of the patron saint of the town, is actually one of the few remaining winter festivals in the area and the only one in the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria.
The traditional festival has been celebrated for the past 300 years and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the appointment of the first woman as ‘mayordomo’ (butler/steward) of the event.
The programme includes:
Friday 00:30 in the Caseta Oficial – performance by Flamenco artist José Mercé
Saturday at 16:30 – bullfighting with José Antonio Mancebo, Paco Gallego, José María Cortés and Vanesa Montoya
Saturday 00:30 in the Caseta Oficial – performance by Conchito
Sunday 19:30 – Procession through the streets.
Sunday 00:30 in the Caseta Oficial – performance by Manuel Lombo
There will, of course, be plenty going on during the rest of the days, with much eating, drinking and general merrymaking. The Council has spent some €70,000 on the event.
