The Nerja Councillor for Beaches, Jonathan Méndez, is in Madrid to meet with the secretary general of the Demarcación de Costas, José Fernández, to discuss various outstanding projects in the municipality.
On the agenda are Torrecilla beach, El Chucho beach and the Paseo Marítimo de los Carabineros, the walkway which has been closed to the public for the past six years.
Torrecilla beach is the small matter of the installation of, this time, effective breakwaters to prevent the perpetual seasonal erosion of the beach. The last movement on this project was in May 2006 when the Demarcación de Costas approved the bidding for technical assistance for the project with a budget of €90,000.
The Paseo Marítimo de los Carabineros, a walkway connecting Calahonda beach and Burriana beach, has been closed for the past six years following a series of rockslides. Secretary general José Fernández, on his last visit to Nerja, stated that although some sections of the walkway would more than likely have to stay closed, no final decision had been made as to whether to demolish or try to repair the walkway.
The third major project is the new promenade on El Chucho beach which will connect Torrecilla with El Playazo. The company TECONMA has been awarded this contract with a budget of €743,000. The promenade will be 285 metres long and 5 metres wide.
