An intoxicated driver who lost control of his car and crashed and then abandoned the vehicle, leaving one of his passengers dead in the back seat, has been found and charged.
The accident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning in Cuevas del Campo. The car crashed after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The passenger in the front seat sustained minor injuries, as did the driver, but a 27 year old Guadix man who was traveling in the back seat died as a result of the crash, trapped amidst a tangle of metal.
Police found the driver some eight kilometres away at a service station where he was breathalised and subsequently charged for a number of road safety offences including drink-driving and failure to report an accident. Four hours after the accident, the alcohol level in the bloodstream of the driver was still sufficient to constitute an offence.
