The Councillor for Foreign Residents, Emma Hall, and the President of the Nerja Lions Club, Martin Kopp, held a press conference yesterday to report on the building of five houses in Sri Lanka which have been funded by the Lions Club.
Although 90% of Lions funds are generally used for local projects and aid, they do, on occasion, make contributions to overseas projects relating to humanitarian aid in times of disaster. In this case it was the devastating tsunami in 2004 which left thousands dead and more than three million people homeless.
The total cost of these five houses was $10,000 and this amount was collected by the Lions Club solely in Nerja
