In Málaga city last year, one hundred people were fined, on average, €120 for failing to clean up the excrement deposited on the public thoroughfares by their pooches.
Fines for failing to clean up after dogs have ‘done their business’ range from €75 to €500, depending upon the area in which the incident occurs and the attitude of the owners, but have generally tended to be in the region of €120.
The previous year, 2006, the number of people getting into trouble on this account was 156, so a bit of an improvement there. The authorities put the improvement down to a public awareness campaign carried out in September 2007 which was aimed at pet owners and urged them to participate in keeping the city clean.
