Two people have been arrested in El Rocio, Huelva, on charges of illegal trafficking in manpower.
A Guardia Civil inspection of a farm in El Rocio where around 200 people were employed found that 35 of the labourers had no work permits and the conditions under which they were working amounted to exploitation. The workforce included Spanish, Rumanian, Polish, Portuguese and Bulgarian nationals.
Furthermore, it was discovered that 90 workers were living in the one house! Some had to sleep in the stables whilst others were crammed into small rooms. Each day, these workers were transported to various places in the province and for all this, the transport and accommodation, the workers had to pay.
The two men arrested are due to appear in court in Ayamonte court shortly.
