Ten people, all of them Nigerian nationals, have been arrested as part of an investigation into a lottery scam. The network operated in Málaga and Huelva provinces.
The gang would contact people by letter to inform them that they had won an international Spanish lottery. They would then follow up with emails and phone calls asking the ‘winners’ to make two bank transfers amounting to 1,250 and 3,742 euros respectively. Emails were sent via Wi-Fi connections to avoid detection.
Whoa! I was always under the impression that the whole object of being a ‘winner’ was to RECEIVE a prize of some description. Surely you would have to be a chip short of a butty to continue beyond this stage?
In a little over three months, the gang gathered in €19,155 from various parts of the world.
During the investigation, police have seized four computers, bank documents, lottery forms and €15,000 in cash.
Obviously a number of under-filled sarnies floating around.
