Ronda is set to add a third crane to its ‘grua’ service and introduce 24 hour towing in an effort to combat ‘inconsiderate’ parking.
A dozen cars are currently towed away each day in Ronda but this figure is likely to rise significantly in the not too distant future as 24 hour towing is introduced. At the moment, parking badly during the day is quite likely to result in the appearance of the ‘grua’ truck, but at night it’s a different story. The number of complaints relating to people being blocked-in etc by inconsiderate motorists have been steadily increasing until it has now reached the stage that the Council has decided to act.
The two trucks currently in service operate in the mornings and afternoons and will continue to do so, the new truck will operate throughout the whole day.
The ‘grua’ service is operated by private companies and the Council has already invited tenders for the new vehicle. The service requires the presence of a Local Police officer to issue a ticket and order the withdrawal of a vehicle. Fines collected as a result of ‘grua’ action are split between the Council and the operating company. The fine is expected to be around €60 with the operating company receiving the lion’s share, some 65%.
In addition, the Council is not ruling out the introduction of more ‘grua’ trucks during peak periods, such as the September Feria.
