Police have detained two people in connection with the fatal shooting on Sunday of two brothers in Villanueva del Trabuco.
The two brothers, Francisco and Juan, had been picking olives at finca Rajaestacas, owned by one of them, when they were shot and killed. The finca is about three kilometres from Villanueva del Trabuco near the town of Casillas Vacas.
A third brother, José, a minor, discovered the bodies and alerted the authorities. However, José has been detained on suspicion of being linked to the double murder, the motive being the division of a recent inheritance after the death of their father. Also detained is another man who lived at the same farm as the brothers near the town of Archidona. He is currently thought to be the perpetrator of the crime.
One theory being actively pursued is that the younger brother, José, hired the other arrested man to carry out the killings on his behalf. The investigation continues.
