DNA tests carried out on the body found in the Huelva estuary on Friday have confirmed 100% that it is that of five year old Mari Luz Cortes who disappeared on January 13th after going to the local kiosk to buy some sweets.
Guardia Civil officers had already confirmed the identity of the body as had the father of the girl, but the DNA test make it conclusive. An autopsy is being carried out but the judge has declared the results secret and will decide at a later stage whether to make them public or not.
However, early indications, or speculation, are that Mari Luz Cortes died within 24 hours of her disappearance and had not suffered sexual abuse.
Players at yesterday’s match between Recreativo de Huelva and Mallorca wore black armbands and flags in the town continue to fly at half-mast.
