Microsoft has cut the price of its Xbox 360 video game console in Europe.
Effective March 14th, the 20 gigabyte hard drive model will cost €270 euros, a reduction in price of €80. In the UK, the basic machine, which does not come with any hard drive, will cost £159.99, that’s a reduction of £40 on the current price.
The change in pricing makes the Xbox360 cheaper than both of its main competitors, the Nintendo Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3. Sony’s 40GB console retails for £299.99 compared to £259.99 for Microsoft’s top level Xbox 360 Elite, which has a 120GB drive. The Nintendo Wii currently retails for £180.
The Xbox 360 was the first of the new generation of consoles to be launched but has recently been losing out to its main rivals.
