Parents detained on suspicion of maltreating a five month old baby

A five month old baby admitted to hospital with gastroenteritis was found to have various bruises and scratches and the parents have been detained on suspicion of maltreatment.

The bay was admitted to the Málaga Maternity Hospital suffering from gastroenteritis and subsequently, as a result of this condition, dehydration. Doctors examining the baby discovered bruising on the legs and buttocks of the baby and scratches on its abdomen, and this alerted them to the possibility of maltreatment. The medical staff, as is the procedure in such cases, alerted the Local Police.

The parents were then detained for questioning and the baby has been placed under the guardianship of the Junta de Andalucía.

It would appear that the mother, aged 36 years, has six other children, four of whom are already under the guardianship of the Junta de Andalucía. One is in a foster home and the other three are in protection centres.
