The Guardia Civil and the Agencia Tributaria (Inland Revenue) have seized more than 230,000 counterfeit items valued at over €200 million in what is the largest operation of its kind ever carried out in Spain.
Six containers, each 40 feet long, were seized at Algeciras port and were found to contain numerous counterfeit brands of, amongst other things, sports shoes, wallets, handbags, purses, hats, ties, belts, trunks, trousers, jackets, watches, suits, shirts and jackets.
The containers arrived in Algeciras on board two ships from the Chinese port of Yantián with a declared destination of Morocco. The authorities began an investigation after the legitimate owners of various trademarks and brands lodged complaints concerning the amount of counterfeit goods currently on the market.
No-one has so far been detained in the operation.
It would explain the ‘RAMNES’ jacket the other day….
