Over 900 illegal immigrants are known to have died last year in their attempts to cross into Spain.
It is reported that 921 illegal immigrants are known to have died en route to Spain, although the ‘real’ figure is believed to be as high as 3,000.
Most of the deaths occur at sea, the journey from North Africa being a perilous one, but an increasing number are dying in the Sahara desert on their way to the coast.
