Three people from the same family, a couple and their ten year old son, died yesterday in San Telmo, a municipality of Jerez de la Frontera, as the result of a gas leak.
The Emergency Services were notified of a possible gas leak in the ground floor apartment at around 22:30 and they informed the Fire Brigade, National Police and Local Police. When they arrived at the house, they found the lifeless bodies of the couple and a ten year old boy in a very serious condition. The boy was rushed to hospital but the medics were unable to do anything to save his life.
Two other children of the family, aged 16 years and 19 years, were, fortunately, out of the house at the time of the leak. More than 100 residents in the block were temporarily evacuated from the building but were allowed back once their homes had been suitably aired.
The City Council of Jerez de la Frontera has declared three days of official mourning for the victims and has placed itself ‘at the disposal’ of the surviving children should they need assistance.
