Work on the new underground car park near the Parque Verano Azul in Nerja has been at a standstill since last October – the time it was due to be completed – but things may be on the move again.
One of the problems was that, due to all the delays etc, various rules and regulations relating to, amongst other things, safety had changed. The Nerja Council is now planning to submit a new draft project next week and the current cunning plan is for the car park to be finished in the last week of June of this year. Shortly thereafter, the car park will become fully operational, just in time for the main holiday period.
That’s the latest plan, anyway.
The whole project was budgeted at €2.4 million but there will now be extra costs involved relating to the necessary modifications, although the Council hopes that these extra costs will not be ‘a significant amount’. When finished, the car park will have three floors and parking spaces for 278 vehicles.
The modifications which have to be undertaken following the introduction of various new laws and regulations include new lighting systems, access control systems, wiring, ventilation and fire prevention measures.
