The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has agreed to meet with representatives of the Market Traders Association to address their concerns about safety and security at the new market site in Almijara but insists that the decision to move the market is ‘irreversible’.
The market traders are vehemently opposed to the move from the current El Chaparil area, citing concerns about safety at the new site and, probably more to the point, the fact that they consider the new site to be at ‘the end of the world’ and fear it will have an adverse effect on their incomes.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the traders were out collecting signatures to try and boost their cause.
