The funeral takes place today of Manuel Millón, the personal secretary to the mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo. The service is at the El Salvador church on the Balcón de Europa at 19:00.
The body of 55 year old Manuel Millón was found early yesterday morning on the beach near the Balcón de Europa after what is being treated as a suicide.
It would appear that Millón, who was at the PP office in calle Pintada early that morning, shot himself and then, gun still in hand, managed to walk down to the Balcón de Europa where he jumped to his death from a height of about twenty metres.
A short, handwritten suicide note was found at the PP office although it apparently did not specify the reasons for his actions. One theory being investigated is that Manuel Millón, whose health had weakened in recent months, had possibly been diagnosed with a serious disease just the day before and that this drove him to take his own life.
Manuel Millón was a councillor for the Alianza Popular in the 1980’s and for the Partido Popular in the 1990’s. He was a professor at the IES Jorge Guillén in Torrox but had been on leave since 2000. In 2007 he became personal secretary to the mayor of Nerja, a position he still held at the time of his death.
