A discharge of faecal water has been contaminating the beach at Torre de Benagalbón since last Tuesday, rendering the area a bit on the smelly side.
The discharge is from the sewage system which is managed by Axaragua and is apparently the result of improvement work being carried out on the local fire station in preparation for the summer season. Axaragua say that they have been taking advantage of rainy days when no-one is using the beaches and it is a quite normal procedure and that everything will be cleaned up by the weekend.
Residents, however, are demanding an immediate halt to the discharges and the removal of the contaminated sand. In addition, they are requesting a public health analysis of the sand and water in the area.
