A six-storey apartment block in Vélez-Málaga had to be evacuated yesterday morning after thick smoke began to pour from the basement.
At around 11:00 yesterday morning, smoke began to rise from the basement parking area of a six-storey apartment block in calle Eduardo Iglesias, opposite the Health Centre. The Fire Brigade arrived on the scene and evacuated the residents as a precautionary measure.
A car in the parking area had developed a mechanical fault and was pouring out thick smoke. The firefighters feared that the car would ignite and a fire would then spread to four other cars in the garage but, fortunately, it didn’t.
Several of the residents needed treatment, two for smoke inhalation and two for anxiety attacks.
