The Nerja Council has acted swiftly following complaints by the ecological group GENA about two discharges of sewage into the Rio Chillar.
The Councillor for the Environment, José Miguel Jimena Ortega, held a press conference and announced that the reported leaks are being plugged immediately.
He stated that the two pipes, storm water drains, had intermittently discharged sewage for a number of years but, as such discharges were not continuous, it had been impossible to trace the source. Now, it seems, someone has connected their waste water outlet to the pipes and the Councillor has promised that whoever is responsible for this act will be very heavily fined.
The Councillor called it an irresponsible act, especially as the discharges are close to the beaches of El Chucho and Playazo.
Could have sworn that an earlier statement indicated that the Council knew nothing at all about any discharges!
