Ten people have been arrested in Guipúzcoa in connection with acts of ‘kale borroka’ carried out during the past three years.
The detainees are thought to have been involved in at least twenty acts of sabotage during the past three years in a triangular area between Rentería, Oiartzun and Lezo. These acts included terrorist attacks on electricity substations and a fire at Rentería train station.
The police also carried out raids on various premises, including the homes of some of the detainees and a local bar. The detainees form part of the outlawed youth organisation ‘Segi’ in Gupúzcoa and have been rounded uo as part of an investigation headed by the renowned anti-terrorism judge Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
‘Kale Borroka’ is the Basque for ‘Street Fighting’ and refers to urban riots and property damage caused by young Basque nationalists.
