Nerja Health Centre

The proposed new health centre in Nerja has once again become topical.

Last week, the mayor of Nerja announced that the Department of Public Works had given the green light to the proposed change of location for the new health centre, the site being by the roundabout at the top of the hill leading down to Burriana beach.

In the meantime, the opposition PSOE has been critical of the governing Council, accusing them of not actually being interested in building the new centre.

In 2003, the Council signed an agreement to bear 50% of the costs of the project. However, all political parties in Nerja are of the opinion that such projects should actually be financed by the Junta de Andalucía. The opposition PSOE is proposing a motion to denounce the original 50%/50& agreement as they not only believe that the responsibility for financing lies with the Junta, but also that the Council was rather forced into accepting the agreement.

The ruling PP Council is keen to know the position of the Junta de Andalucía before supporting the motion and so they sent a fax to the Provincial Health Delegate María Antigua Escalera asking for clarification of the situation.

And here we go again. The Provincial Health Department apparently says it has not received any fax from the Nerja Council and they are just waiting for the Council to make the land available as soon as possible so the whole thing can get underway.
