The proposed new Fire Station in Nerja is a little bit closer to becoming a reality, although there is still a long way to go.
The Nerja Council proposes to make available to the Provincial Council the site chosen for the new Fire Station and this could happen some time in May. The Council have reached an agreement with the promoters of the land, Salsa Real Estate, and this agreement is now on public view until May 5th to allow for objections etc.
At the end of this period, the agreement will be signed and the land handed over to the Provincial Council who will then assume responsibility for building the new facility.
The new Fire Station, known as ‘Type C’, is to be built on a 3,500 square metre plot of land on the Frigiliana road. It will consist of 5 firefighters, fire engines complete with ladders, an ambulance, a 4×4 and a heliport.
The project has been budgeted at €1.1 million and the complex itself will have training facilities, meeting rooms, changing rooms and car parking areas. This new station is designed to cover Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox and is part of a €59 million project to improve firefighting capabilities within the region.
The current timescale is that the facility itself will be completed during 2008 and be fully equipped during 2009.
Similar major facilities are also planned for Ronda, Antequera, Coín and Vélez-Málaga as well as a number smaller sub-stations in various municipalities throughout Málaga province.
