ETA carried out three bomb attacks last night in Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya in what is seen as a response to the imprisonment of Inocencia Galparsoro, mayor of Arrasate-Mondragón.
The first explosion occurred at midnight at a warehouse owned by the Ministry of Employment in the town of Arrigorriaga, causing significant damage to the building and to some cars which were parked inside.
Two bombs were placed near the offices of the Basque Institute of Occupational Health and Security in Sebastian, one in the gardens area and the other in the parking area of the Cancer Institute.
At 23:25, a phone call in the name of ETA was made to the DYA, the regional breakdown service, warning that the three devices had been placed and set to explode.
The mayor of Arrasate-Mondragón, Inocencia Galparsoro, is a member of the suspended ANV party, seen by many as the political wing of ETA, and has been ordered to prison by judge Baltasar Garzón on charges of collaborating with organised terrorism.
The ANV was suspended on February 8th 2008 and there are moves currently being made to officially outlaw the party. Other members of the ANV also face the prospect of arrest.
