The Nerja Council is to ask the Junta de Andalucía for definitive approval of the PORN (Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales) in relation to the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural park.
Maro-Cerro Gordo was declared a ‘natural area’ in 1989 and, as such, is a protected area with limitations placed upon what can and can’t be done in the area regarding building, tourism etc. The PORN, a resource document, is supposed to clarify the situation for all concerned. Landowners, for example, are keen to know exactly what they can do on their own land and the Council want to know what will be permitted as regards tourist development of the area.
In the intervening ‘waiting period’, from 1989 until now, the only concrete measures successfully undertaken have been to introduce a bus service to ferry tourists to and from the beach and the creation of a couple of spots for sports or tourist diving.
