The provincial authorities are to provide €100,000 to repair the storm damage to the MA-138 in the village of Maro.
The village of Maro was one of the worst hit areas during the floods of September 21st 2007, with the beach road being particularly badly damaged.
The Nerja Council had only just spent over €60,000 improving the roads when the storm hit and caused diversions to be introduced. The road, connecting the nucleus of the village with the beach, is much used by local farmers as well as by tourists.
The repairs will be carried out by the Department of Roads and Public Works and financed under the Plan de Daños por Temporales. The affected stretch of road is 1.3 kilometres long and there is, or was, a small bridge over the El Arco stream.
The repairs will include removing the rubble caused by the storm, making an embankment, repairing the road itself, the erecting of safety barriers and the positioning of various road signs.
