At its plenary session on Wednesday, the PP Council in Nerja used its absolute majority to approve an amendment to the PGOU.
The amendment to the PGOU (all hail and genuflect) concerns the size of buildings that farmers in the area can or cannot construct.
Under the PGOU currently in force, which dates back to 2000, farmers could only build storehouses for the tools of their trade up to a maximum of ten square metres. The new amendment allows for storehouses of up to 40 square metres on plots of land between 2,500 and 5,000 square metres and buildings up to 50 square metres on plots over 5,000 square metres.
The opposition PSOE, whist agreeing with the amendment, abstained from voting. Although agreeing with the amendment, they believe it contravenes regional policy and is therefore ‘irregular’. They point out that innovations or amendments are not permitted once the PGOU has been in force for more than four years. They also accuse the ruling Council of always being ‘late’ and ‘wrong’.
The IU voted against the motion as they believe that increasing the size of buildings opens the way for the construction of dwellings rather than storehouses and gives an easy way in for property speculators.
The ruling PP say such amendments have been made in other municipalities and the current limitations are inadequate.
