The Jérez Council has called for a public demonstration at 13:00 today following the death of a 66 year old woman, allegedly killed by her partner.
The demonstration has been called to show solidarity and to condemn gender violence within the community. The authorities have also decreed three days of official mourning for the latest victim of gender violence, a 66 year old woman who died on Saturday after having her throat cut.
The mayor of Jerez, Pilar Sanchez, is determined to make the city free from ‘macho violence’ and wants a ‘zero tolerance’ policy on this matter.
Twenty-three woman in Spain have died this year so far as a result of domestic violence.
