Following hot on the heels of approval of the new market site by the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters, both the CMA (Cuenca Mediterránea Andaluza) and the Local Police have also presented their reports as requested by the Ombudsman, mediator in the local dispute.
Both the CMA and the Local Police have approved the new market site in Almijara in relation to safety and security.
The Local Police deem the site, which has two entrances and internal pathways of 3.3m, 4.15m and 5.0m wide, appropriate for its intended and not likely to cause congestion.
The CMA also dispelled any concerns about problems of flooding etc in the area, especially as no construction will be permitted on the site and any build up of water would attain a maximum depth of 30cm.
The Council will now discuss the new market ordinance at its next meeting and then it will only be a question of the mayor signing the ‘decree’ ordering the move to Almijara. The Association of Street Traders, AVAM, will also be studying the reports and holding a meeting of its members to discuss their final stand on the issue.
So, the move is still likely to be ‘very soon’.
