The family of Mari Luz Cortes, the five year old girl who was allegedly murdered by a pederast, have collected the 500,000 signatures necessary to propose to the Congress of Deputies an initiative condemning paedophiles to life imprisonment.
The family, and the grandfather of Mari Luz Cortes in particular, has been traveling the country collecting signatures which would allow them to propose to the Congress of Deputies a ‘Iniciativa Legislativa Popular’, a ‘People Legislative Initiative’, whereby paedophiles are sent to prison for lfe.
The family hope to collect as many as three million signatures in total. The route they are taking is: Salamanca (Thursday 22nd), Avila (Friday 23rd), Madrid (until Tuesday 27th), Toledo (Wednesday 28th), Ciudad Real (Thursday and Friday, 29th and 30th), Jaén (Saturday 31st), Córdoba (Sunday June 1st) and finishing in Huelva on Monday, June 2nd.
The family, and many others, believe the Spanish legal system to be too lenient towards murderers making Spain a ‘cheap place to kill’. They want to see punishments handed out which fit the crimes committed and sentences carried out in full.
