After an initial court appearance, the Benalmádena pediatrician accused of possessing child pornography has been remanded in custody without bail.
The 49 year old doctor, who worked in a health centre in Arroyo de la Miel, was arrested on Wednesday and has been charged under section 189 of the Penal Code. The law relates to the possession, publication, distribution or display of pornographic material involving minors under 13 years of age which shows images of physical or sexual violence.
The doctor had thousands of photos and videos on his computer, most downloaded through the internet. The Health Department stated that in 20 years, they had only ever received four complaints against the doctor and that these were unrelated to the present case.
Two other people were also detained in the same operation against child pornography, one in Salamanca and one in Almería.
The investigation began after an anonymous call from an internet user in Ciudad Real who was downloading a course on how to play the guitar and was surprised to find that pornographic material was also attached. Police computer experts then followed a trail which eventually led to the doctor in Benalmádena.
