The Asociación de Comerciantes y Empresarios de Vélez-Málaga (ACEV) has asked the Local Council to compensate traders who are suffering as a result of works being carried out on the arroyo Romero.
ACEV say that the works have affected up to 400 local businesses, some of them seeing their incomes reduced by as much as seventy percent.
At a meeting with the mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Franciso Delgado Bonilla, the president of ACEV, Antonia Ruiz Oliva, also complained about the long delay regarding works on the stretch of road between the Andalucía roundabout and calle Magallanes. The cause of the delay is the discovery of fibre optic telephone cables on the site.
The mayor has stated that he will arrange for the re-routing of traffic, making calle Hermanos Pinzón two-way. Vehicles heading for Molino del Velasco could then turn right on avenida de Madrid. The mayor pointed out, however, that this solution would involve the loss of 25 parking spaces in the area.
Doesn’t anyone keep a note of where they bury their cables?
