A taxi driver was held up at gunpoint after pulling up outside the Hotel Andalucía in Marbella.
A taxi driver pulled up outside the Hotel Andalucía Plaza in Marbella to drop off three tourists he had brought in from Puerto Banus. As he was finishing collecting the fares, the receptionist from the hotel ran out onto the street yelling and shouting for someone to call the police. When the taxi driver looked up he was facing the barrel of a gun.
The robber, wearing a mask and carrying a sports bag, demanded money. The taxi driver gave him €80, trying to explain that he didn’t have any more than that in the cab. The robber then fled to a car where a companion was waiting and they made their escape.
The taxi driver watched as they drove off and then decided to follow them. At one point, he drew almost alongside his attackers and this prompted them to wind down the window and fire two shots. At this stage the taxi driver wisely turned off and drove back to the hotel where he was able to give the police details of the license plate.
It is thought that the thief had made an unsuccessful attempt at robbing the hotel and then, possibly out of frustration, decided to try and at least get something for his trouble by sticking-up the taxi. A case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for the taxi driver.
