Torrox Council has commissioned several studies relating to the installation of security cameras in the town.
The Council is studying the idea of placing security cameras in the main areas of the town including the promenade, avenida del Faro and at several roundabouts.
The recent murder in Torrox has prompted a security review and the Council is already planning to increase the number of police officers in the area. With the continuing growth in population, they believe that these measures alone will not be sufficient, particularly in the short term. Hence the idea to install CCTV.
However, the Council acknowledges that the procedures and paperwork involved with the installation of video surveillance are long and painfully slow and involve, amongst other things, approval by the Supreme Court of Andalucía.
