The Local and National Police in Puerto Banus have carried out their first joint operation against petty crime in the town. Twelve people were detained.
The Local and National Police have carried out their first joint operation to combat increasing petty crime in the area, concentrating in particular on avenida de Ribera, known locally as the ‘street from hell’. The operation began at 22:00 on Tuesday and continued into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Most of the arrests were foreign prostitutes without residency papers and sub-Saharan street vendors caught in possession of counterfeit goods. Various local businesses such as record shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs were also cited for infringing local municipal ordinances, most relating to the occupation of the public thoroughfare.
More such operations are planned.
