The Guardia Civil has detained two people suspected of crimes against the public health after they were caught with 280 kilos of hashish.
Guardia Civil officers were patrolling an area around the river Palmones, Cádiz, in an attempt to stop drugs coming in across the Straits of Gibraltar when they spotted a boat come in to shore. On board were three men. A fourth man was already on the shore.
Packages were unloaded from the boat and the police suspected the contents to be drugs and moved in. They managed to detain two people, the others escaping in the boat. An inspection of the packages, which were being loaded into a waiting vehicle, revealed 280 kilos of hashish.
The two detainees are from Algeciras and Los Barrios. Further arrests in the next few days have not been ruled out.
