The Ministry of Public Works has signed an agreement with the employers of 88% of road haulage workers, but the missing 12% means the strike is set to continue.
The Minister for Public Works, Magdalena Alvarez, has agreed a package of 56 measures to help the road haulage industry during the current fuel crisis, although the agreement stops short of guaranteeing or setting a minimum tariff.
Three organisations, however, remain outside the agreement and look set to continue the strike action which has so far, in only three days, resulted in two deaths, numerous injuries, confrontations and shortages of consumer goods.
The three renegade organisations are Fenadismer, Confedetrans and Antic, who between them account for 12% of the road haulage sector. The Minister is appealing to them to join in the agreement as she sees no reason for them to maintain their strike.
