A Málaga man arrested twice within 32 hours for drink-driving has been sentenced to one year in prison.
The defence counsel for the accused, a 20 year old resident of Málaga, agreed to the prosecution’s recommendations of six months prison for each offence. Two trials took place consecutively and lasted a mere four minutes.
The decision to agree to the prosecution’s recommendations came as a result of the fact that the defendant neither showed up in court nor gave any reason for his absence….Probably out for a drive…
The man was arrested on May 5th after being involved in an accident in which a young child was injured. A breathaliser test proved positive for excess alcohol. Less than two days later, the defendant was arrested for a second time and, once again, a breathaliser test proved positive.
In addition to being under the influence of alcohol, the defendant was not in possession of a valid driving licence. Furthermore, the defendant has two prior convictions for drink-driving and is undergoing treatment for drug addiction. Prior to entry into the drug rehabilitation centre he had been living on the streets.
