Torrox has become the second municipality to assign beach safety and security to the Protección Civil.
During the main summer period, July through September, thirty Protección Civil volunteers will be responsible for monitoring the main beaches in the municipality, namely El Morche, Ferrara and El Peñoncillo.
There will be seven lifeguard towers and the volunteers will be on duty each day from 11:00 to 19:00. There are also four nurses on duty and Ferrara Playa will also have a small Local Police office.
The Protección Civil have at their disposal two new Quad bikes, three boats and a 4×4. They also have three special chairs to facilitate easier bathing for the disabled.
The cost of the summer beach security has been budgeted at €22,000. Nerja is the other municipality using the Civil Proteccíon this year, although there it caused a little bit of criticism from the opposition parties. This does not appear to have nee the case in Torrox, however.
