The ruling PP Council in Nerja has been answering criticism that revisions to the PGOU are taking too long and are hindering growth in the municipality.
Both the opposition PSOE and the Employers’ Association (AEN) have been criticising the slow progress with revisions to the local PGOU, saying that it is hindering growth in the community.
In answer to these criticisms, the Council have said that there is actually no hurry to produce a new PGOU, although it is ‘in progress’. They say that the current economic climate is the reason for a slowdown in building etc and not the fact that the new PGOU isn’t ready.
The Council points out that there is a perfectly adequate PGOU currently in operation and they are keen to defend the general interests of the municipality as a whole rather than the interests of a few individuals who want to see changes to the rating of areas of land purely for their own benefit.
In addition, the Council stated that a new PGOU would not solve many of the major projects or issues, such as the proposed golf course, as the problems sit with the Junta de Andalucía and not with the local authority.
