The Nerja Council has responded to the ‘chaos’ of Tuesday’s market move, accusing the market traders of an irresponsible attitude.
The market traders did not set up their stalls as they complained that the new site, which they have always opposed, was not suitable. They said the aisles were too small for the number of vehicles needing to access in order for the traders to set up properly and that the stalls were too small and too close together.
The Council points out that the stalls are larger than those in El Chaparil, 20.4 metres compared to 18 metres, and that access for vehicles is very similar to the road access at the former site, with which they had no problem.
The traders have three weeks in which to set up their stalls or face losing their licences under Article 13b of the new Municipal Ordinance.
There was one arrest after Tuesday’s debacle as the result of an altercation between a stallholder and a Local Police officer.
