The Guardia Civil has arrested 31 people belonging to two organisations involved in drugs smuggling on an international scale.
Operation Mary, as it was known, began last February and revealed the existence of two international groups involved in drugs smuggling and other nefarious activities.
After identifying several group members, a surveillance operation was carried out and this has resulted in the arrest of the 31 individuals. The detainees hail from Spain, France, Croatia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Morocco, Poland and the Ukraine. A right international mob.
In various raids, the Guardia Civil has seized 6,025 kilos of hashish, 1 kilo of cocaine, 2 pistols, 1 shotgun, three boats and numerous articles believed to have been stolen in a number of robberies carried out by the groups. The groups have been linked to 14 robberies so far, but this is expected to increase as the investigation continues, possibly reaching the 100 mark.
The arrests did, coincidentally, clear up an earlier mystery. A fire in a Huelva discoteque, which caused €150,000 worth of damage, was the result of a squabble between the two organisations.
The raids and detentions took place in Huelva, Cádiz, Sevilla, Zaragoza and Ceuta. Chatges include crimes against the public health, robbery, bribery, smuggling and the illegal possession of firearms.
