There was no market in Nerja yesterday as the traders continued their protests against the new site.
The Association of Street Vendors, AVAM, once again refused to set up their stalls at the new market site in Almijara, claiming that is unsuitable for the purpose and incapable of holding 200 stalls.
The Council, meanwhile, has warned the traders that, unless they have set up their stalls withing three weeks of the official move, they risk losing their licences under the new municipal ordinance. AVAM, on the other hand, believe that the Council are bluffing on this point as they are under the impression that the new ordinance is not actually legally in force yet.
AVAM continue to suggest the calle Carabeo/Los Huertos area as a temporary home for the market, at least until it is turned into a permanent feria ground. They say this area is far more suitable and has adequate access for vehicles belonging to the traders, something the new site in Almijara does not have according to them.
The saga continues.
