A team of doctors at the Hospìtal Virgen del Rocío in Sevilla has successfully separated Siamese twins joined at the abdomen.
A total of 36 professionals were involved in eight hours of surgery to separate the twins who were joined at the stomach and shared, amongst other things, abdominal organs and muscles.
The three-week old twins are now in a stable condition in the intensive care unit and should be able to carry out a normal life.
The occurrence of Siamese twins in the population is around 1 in 200,000 and occur mostly in females.
