For many Spaniards, the summer holiday period begins today and around 4.3 million cars are expected to hit the roads.
Today sees the start of the summer holiday period for many Spaniards and the roads in Castilla La Mancha, Valencia and Murcia are expected to be particularly busy.
To try and keep traffic flowing smoothly and to try and prevent accidents, around 9,000 police officers and DGT officials will be on duty. This year, particular attention is being paid to speed and in addition to the normal fixed radar checkpoints, some 240 vehicles will be equipped with radar.
