The Nerja market dispute continues as the stallholders once again refuse to set up their stalls at the new site.
This is the fourth consecutive week that the stallholders have refused to set up their stalls for the weekly market and there seems to be no end in sight to the dispute between the Market Traders Association (AVAM) and the mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo.
The order to move from the old El Chaparil location to the new site in Almijara was made, by mayoral decree, on June 24th with the market traders being given 3 weeks in which to set up their stalls or face losing their licences under the terms of the new municipal ordinance.
The market traders have now requested a meeting with the president of the Partido Popular in Andalucía, Javier Arenas, in the hope that he may be able to mediate in the dispute.
